Trip To Turkey; Skiing

Yes, finally! My favorite experience in Turkey; skiing. This is my last post of my Turkey series.

Ok, I can’t lie, I was actually quite nervous about this whole skiing thing. But I knew that if I didn’t try this out for the first time, I would deeply regret my choice. Take the chance when you have it! So I surfed YouTube, not for ‘fun skiing’ but for ‘skiing accidents’. Definitely not a good thing to do if you’re already on the cable on the way to the skiing location. However, I was unexpectedly brave and reckless as soon as I got hold of my skis and poles. It was certainly a fun sport that I loved at first try and I would love to ski again, and perhaps go down a steeper slope this time!

This was the skiing place, and I honestly enjoyed the view of ski resorts covered in snow as I only saw that in movies (Am I being too dramatic?). I will continuously emphasize how Turkey is a cheap holiday option. The ski equipment for one person (ski pants, ski poles, ski boots, and skis itself) were around 80 Lira (25 Dollars). Can I mention, I was in love with the ski pants. They were extremely soft and warm, I wanted to go home with it. The place was quite packed, and there was loud music playing for everyone to enjoy. There were cafes and seats pretty much everywhere, if you ever feel like you need a break from skiing. You would think that the place was cold, with all that snow, but since we were on top of mountains, closer to the sun, and performing an extremely tiring sport, I didn’t feel cold at all.

However, when snow was actually falling from the sky, it was freezing. This video shows how hard the snow was falling, it felt like ice cubes instead of calm snowflakes dropping from the sky like how movies portray snowing. Regardless, it felt like I was in another dimension…I loved it! Besides that, yes, this video shows our first attempt at skiing and our constant failure.

I upnderestimated how tired I could get from this sport. It was tiring only because of the hardship of going up the hills, with our heavy skis and poles, just to ski down. Although, there were to go to the very top of the mountain. But it was our first day attempting to ski so we played safe and didn’t go on it until the next day when we felt more confident. This picture was taken on the next day when we gathered enough courage to go up the scary T-Bar lifts (the yellow poles seen at the very right of the picture), which we, thankfully, went up safely without hurting ourselves like how people did in the ‘T-Bar accidents’ videos we watched the night before. As we ski-ed down, we kept falling because of the lack of control we had on our skis that were going at the speed of light. The professional skiers around us were probably judging us hardly and asking themselves why there are newbies up in this advanced slope. Our response to that is that we only had 5 days in Turkey and we wanted to experience as much as possible, even if it means risking our lives, haha.

On the third day, I went to Narnia. Quite literally, the place felt like Narnia and I thought I was dreaming. We didn’t do much there. Just took pictures, made snow angels, and a failed snowman, because when could we ever do this again?
